Wringing My Hands

What makes you nervous?

How is this such a difficult question to answer?

I don’t think I get nervous very often. I do get anxious, which is along the same lines.

For instance, I was supposed to meet up with my son this morning. He has a legal issue to fix and we were to meet up today so he can get that taken care of.

We have had this planned for a few weeks. I texted to confirm last night and haven’t heard anything.

Because of our history, I wanted to be sure he would be at the rendezvous point before I make the drive.

I wonder if he is ok. I think the feeling is more anxiety than nervous. Either way, my innards are roiling.

Sometimes when this happens, the explanation is perfectly reasonable. Sometimes it means something has gone awry. Because we have been dealing with this for so long, I don’t know if it’s possible to trust that everything is ok.

  1. Just saying, but better to nake the drive and be there than to not be there while his is waiting for you, having list his phone, or it being powerless. Many things go awry, and technology is one if the most probable. We take technology for granted now. This we should never do.
I hope, for your sake, the problem was something else.

    1. Having said that, I don’t think there is anything that makes me nervous. But knowing there are people like Trump, Putin, Netan’yahoo and Kim (etc) in the world certainly does concern me. We are on the brink of a war no one can win, but all life on our planet can lose.

  2. Great posts as always. I can relate to this one because I’m generally a nervous person to begin with. Being a person with severe anxiety, there are many things that make me feel nervous in life. Whether it’s the drastic change in routine, lifestyle changes or failing to meet deadlines for assignments, there are numerous factors that can trigger my anxiety. However, what truly terrifies me are loud noises. Many years ago, my family had the misfortune of facing bomb blast disasters causing trauma in Saudi Arabia. A terrifying act of terrorism, it ruined our dreams of settling down in the Middle Eastern nation. Through sheer miracle, we were somehow able to survive the worst disaster imaginable. That being said, the traumatic aftermath of the disaster stuck with me forever. I became extremely sensitive to loud noises in my environment. Whenever I heard noise in loud proximity, I would be reminded of the bombing tragedy.

I recently wrote about my experiences in my movie review of “Oppenheimer”. The Oscar-winning film tells the story of an anxiety-ridden physicist that designed a bomb which transformed the world forever. Here is why I recommend it highly:
